Birthday Wishes:  Thank you for all the birthday wishes and gifts I received on my birthday. I was very blessed and thankful!

Rainy Weather:  Fall weather has begun!  It is so important for children to get outside for a body break and run around, use big body movements and be loud. There is rain in the forecast and we do play outside in light rain. Please help your child be prepared for rainy weather.  A rain jacket and rain boots, extra socks and maybe even an umbrella.  Thank you for your consideration as we plug through the rainy days ahead!

Phonograms:  This week we add or (as in “for”, ew  (as in grew, and as in new), ui  (as in suit) . Please refer to the home booklet to review with your child.  All these phonograms make particular sounds that equip students as they begin to read.  Again, thank you for your home support!

Word Detective:  On Monday I will send home inside the planner a reading guide for you and your child as you read at home.  When you come to a word that you can’t figure out—-we have some reading strategies for the reader.  This week we will talk about the first strategy which is Eagle Eye.  We will use this as we practise in class reading.  Please refer to the chart as a guide to your child’s home reading.

Spelling:   I’m so proud of how well the students are learning their Spelling words.  This is our last week of 5 Spelling words. (next we begin with 8 words)  Here are the words that I will introduce on Monday, Oct.31 (word work throughout the week) and testing will be Friday, Nov. 4)  Please review at home.  the, can, to, he, if

Home Reading:  Make sure you are reading and returning your book as regularly as possible!

Playtime:  In between learning, we take some time to just enjoy each other and play.  Below are some pictures.

Bible verse:  Testing is happening on Monday, Oct 31.  Hope with all our class practise your child will know Psalm 23: 1-4

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

It’s time for Parent/Teacher Interviews! I have had time to get to know the students in the classroom and do some assessments, review and teaching. I am looking forward to sharing with you about the strengths and challenges of your student. I understand that November 16th may not work for each family, but I would like to meet with each of you! If this date does not work for you, feel free to email me and we can work out another time. Please click on the link below to sign up for an interview time.

Field Trip:  Due to the smoke situation, our field trip took a different look.  We rode the bus to Walmart and picked a pumpkin, followed by some hot chocolate and a Timbit at Tim Hortons.  We finished up with a movie and popcorn.  The children enjoyed the bus ride and were happy to take home a pumpkin.  Thank you to the parents who came along and helped make the outing possible.  See pictures below.

Tomorrow we will make a pumpkin craft using a full roll of toilet paper.  I have blogged parents to send a roll, but to date only 5 children have brought it in.  This is a second reminder to bring in a full roll of toilet paper so that your child can participate in this fun craft.  Thank you!

Unfortunately, I have just been told that due to increasingly smokey conditions that we will not be allowed to go on our field trip. We are working on a plan to head out on the bus and find some fun without exposing them to too much smoke. Thank you for your understanding.

Smoke and Our Field Trip

We have thought long and carefully about our field trip tomorrow as the children have not been outside yet this week due to air quality. In talking with Administration, we recognize that we will not be able to re-schedule this field trip if we cancel it and may need to pay for it even if we do not go. The air quality index has been changing multiple times a day and to cancel it today may not reflect what is happening outside tomorrow. The children have been counting down the days.

We have decided that we will continue on with our field trip plans and allow the parents to make a choice if they would like their student to attend. You may decide to keep your child home tomorrow, you may send them with a mask or they may come as they are. Safety is important to us and we know that you will make the decision that you feel is best for your child.
