12 Days to Christmas Countdown

Our class will be doing a 12 Days of Christmas countdown to the holidays. Each day we will have a Christmas related activity (45 min) to complete. This will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 30.  Along with this fun, we would love to have a small treat as we do our Christmas activity.  I am looking for some volunteers to bring us some sweet and/or some salty treats for these 12 day activities.  Please let me know via your child’s planner if you can bring something.  (as they say, the more the merrier!)

Science:   We just completed our unit “Objects in the Sky” (Space) and have begun a unit on Habitats.

Socials:  We pause from our unit “I Belong to My School Community” to begin a unit on “Christmas Around the World”.   We will talk about traditions and how people in other countries celebrate Christmas.

Math:  We continue with addition facts (so far we have learned +0,+1,+2,+3,+4) and we will do +5 this week. In addition we are working on a unit about 2D/3D shapes and their attributes.

Lang. Arts: (a quick glance) We continue to work on sight word activities, also practising poems that emphasizes these words.  We are finishing a Robert Munsch novel study unit, developing comprehension and making personal connections.  Journal entries are once a week and these entries are a class generated sentence with illustration.  We continue with our grammar  grammar lessons once week, helping students understand sentence structure and punctuation.  Word searches and cloze sentences with one word selection has been another avenue of building our reading/writing skills. And also, home reading is essential. (refer to my previous post about Reading)

Bible:  We will begin the Christmas story this week.

PE:  We just finished a unit on basketball skills and will begin skipping skills.

We are in a big push to get all of the students reading! Each child is at a different level. You will see books coming home each week: Learning Assistance books and leveled readers. Please allow the students to read the books aloud to you multiple times throughout the week. This will be so helpful in moving us forward! Thank you for your support!

I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. (11) Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (12) This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

It is always good to see progress in reading.  As a parent you can make a big difference.  Please take time to read with your child to help them on the road to reading. As a teacher, I give them all the reading skills and work with them to advance their reading.  But home support is essential .  You as a parent will make the difference.  Thank you for your support!
