Reminders:

• Remember to complete your child’s health check every day
• Continue to dress for the weather, it has been unpredictable but know that we will be outside as much as possible!
• Keep up with the home reading
• Practise multi-letter phonograms

Math:  As part of our measurement unit we are learning about money.  The value of coins and how to count money as well as practical applications of costs items and various ways to pay with concrete money coins.  Next topic: Time Measurement

Science: Our last habitat to study is Forest habitat. (having completed Polar, Ocean, Desert habitats)  Next topic:  Water

Socials:  The needs of community (services, goods, utilities, helping places, fun places, types of homes, etc.)  We will be starting a class project of building a community as we learn what is needed for a community to exist.

 

We have learned all the multi-letter phonograms and are continually reviewing and watching for these phonograms in our daily reading. I will be doing 10 point quizzes every Friday.  Please check your child’s planner this weekend to see how they did on their Spelling test and Phonogram quiz.  Home review on Spelling and Phonograms (see green phonogram booklet) is most helpful.

We have two short weeks coming up. (Friday, Feb 12 Pro-D-Day and Monday, Feb 15  Family Day)  I have introduced the words to the students today but I will give 2 weeks for this list.  We will be testing on Friday, Feb 19.  Here are the words:

Valentine’s Day celebration will be on Wed., Feb 10. Students are allowed to bring valentines to give to their friends (any treats have to be individually packaged). If you choose to do Valentines, (this is completely optional) please make sure you do one for each child in the class, not just a couple of friends. Thank you. Wednesday, February 10th – Valentine’s Colour Day (wear pink, red, white shirt with casual pants)  I have made baggies for the students Valentines and we will be distributing them to each other on this day.

The weather this week is supposed to be VERY cold! Please send your children dressed appropriately to be outside … boots, winter jackets, touques, mittens, scarves..… it is cold, but if not raining we will still be outside.
