We made it through our first full week of school !  It was a good busy, but we were exhausted! I have enjoyed getting to know each of the students a little bit more this week. We are trying to settle in by learning and respecting the regular routines and rules of our classroom. Additionally, this week we had our first whole school chapel, which was really great. We had all Grade 1-12 students in the gym and it was an awesome time of worship together. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend.  Here are some news items:

Toonies for Terry: On Wednesday, September 21st we will be doing our annual Terry Fox Run. We are asking each student to bring in a donation of $2 (or more) to raise money for cancer research. Thanks!

Water bottles: I would encourage each student to have a water bottle … we don’t have a water fountain in the classroom, so it is important to bring their own, which they may bring into the classroom to be stored on our countertop.

Kleenex boxes: If you have not yet brought in kleenex boxes, paint shirt and gym shoes, please do so as soon as possible.

Comfort Kits: Please return Comfort Kits as soon as you have them ready to go – deadline is October 6th

Revised September Dates:

September 19 – No school  (in memory of Queen Elizabeth II)

September 21 – Terry Fox Run $2

September 22 – Parent Welcome Evening 6:30pm (note date change)

September 23 – Knight Day

September 29 – Orange Shirt Day

September 30 – Truth & Reconciliation Day (no school)

Curriculum:

Every day we are practising our single letter phonogram sounds in a group setting.  Testing will be this week to see week to see who may need some Learning Assistance to boost their knowledge.  Learning these sounds is fundamental for learning to read.  (home practise will be a benefit) Also, we are continually working on proper formation of uppercase/lowercase letters.  Some students will need extra home review to manage proper formation and sizing of letters. Equally so, we are reviewing numbers 0-10. (proper formation and sizing).  We are enjoying math talks to gain understanding of what numbers mean and how to decompose them.  Sight words we have learned to recognize and read:  a, I, and, see, can

I am already working on our first field trip to the pumpkin patch in October. If you would like to join us, you will need to have a criminal records check done. If you did one last year, it is still good for this year. If you need to do one, please contact the office and they will give you the forms that you need. There is no cost for the criminal records check!
