Bible verse:  We continue with Psalm 23.   “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.  He guides me in paths of righteousness for His names sake.   Psalm 23: 1,2,3    Please take time to practise. (all three verses) Testing is on Thursday, October 20.

Dates to Remember:

October 6 – deadline for comfort kits (please send, if you have not)

October 19 – Pumpkin Patch fieldtrip

October 21 – Pro D Day

October 26 – Fall Colour dress up day

Phonograms:  Follow the booklet I gave you.  Now we have learned page 1 (sh, th, oo, er , ee)  page 3 (oi,oy)  Next week we learn ch, ow,ou. (page 3)  Please refer to the green phonogram booklet and the back page should help you for the sounds.

Field Trip:  Please pack a bag lunch for our field trip. (no microwave available)  We will eat lunch there.

Library:  Next week we will have library on Thursday due to our field trip on Wednesday.

Spelling:  Next week we start our Spelling lists.  I will introduce words on Monday, testing will be on Thursday.  Here are the words:  a, am, and, as, at

Home Reading:  Monday we begin our home reading program. Here is how it works:   I will send home (inside the planner pouch) a levelled book for your child to practise reading at home.  Please use the Touch-Reading Method: Your child needs to touch read each word with their finger, that is, point to each word as they read it. Please take time to practise this important procedure. (you can model it first for them as you read the book the first time around) Included in the pouch is a recording sheet.  Students need to read the book three times. (not necessarily all in one setting)  Please initial the recording sheet.  Once they have completed that task, I will call students to my desk to read the book (using the touch read method) back to me.  If they can read it using the proper procedure, and with understanding, I will replace the book with another book.  If they cannot read it to me, I will leave it in the planner for them to practise some more.  Understand that I will not be able to meet with the entire class on one day, so if your child is ready and I have not replaced the book, please be patient for me to have time as soon as possible to read with them.  The important thing is that your child needs to practise reading at home and make sure the book and recording sheet is always available in their planner in case they are called to read to me.  There is no time pressure.  Some students will be ready in one day, some students will need extra time.  That is ok as long as they are making an effort to practise.  All students will start on a basic level at which I feel they can experience success.  Once they have read 3 books to me in that level, I will move them onto a higher level.  Your support in this journey of learning to read is so essential!  Thank you for partnering with me to bring your child onto the road of reading.  NOTE:  Students who are attending Learning Assistance will have their own separate ziplock bag of reading activities as outlined by Mrs. Wilson, but are encouraged to use the Touch Reading Method as they read the book she has assigned for them)

Apple unit: We finished off our apple unit with learning about the cycle of the apple tree.  (see below)
