In connection with our learning about what makes a community in Social Studies, we are working on a class project of building a “pretend” community using the knowledge we have learned. We named our community “Folkertstown” and began with making roads within our community, which we named after teachers and workers in our school. This past week we each built a house out of Lego and chose a spot in our community to put it. (We also chose vehicles from our Car Center to park beside our homes) This week we will begin building important buildings/places that our community needs. (e.g, school, stores, restaurants, gas stations, churches, airport, hospital, police/fire station, etc.) Each student will have an opportunity to build one or more of these.
