This week was short (4 days) and rainy, but a good learning week.  We read books about pumpkins in science (life cycle), talked about what we already knew and compared that with new information we didn’t know.  Coming up this week we will be doing some investigation and experiments with a class pumpkin, as well as making a pumpkin craft. (Note:  Each student will need to bring a roll of toilet paper to school for this craft as mentioned in the planner) We have completed review of proper formation of the alphabet letters, and the phonogram sounds associated with each letter, and are beginning to practise beginning, middle, ending sounds of simple words.  In Math we have reviewed proper formation of numbers 0-20, and will begin with addition facts.  As well, we have had a lot of fun learning about patterns and making them with different manipulatives.  In Socials Studies we are finishing up on our family unit.  We have read 14 Robert Munsch stories so far and we are making great connections with these stories!

Reminders/Other Information:

  • Home Reading program has started – please check the planner for information on this – it is so important to practise reading with your child every night at home
  • Field Trip permission slips – please sign and return as soon as possible
  • Dress for the weather! Please remember to send your child with everything they will need if it is an outside day … some of these last few days have been VERY cold, but we still go outside. We also are outside if it is raining a little. So please, send jackets, rain boots, and anything they need to stay warm.
