Rainy Days and Rainbows

Tis the season of rain, and students used felt markers to color our “Rainy Day” picture, using colors of the color wheel for the umbrella.  As well, we learned about the story of Noah in Bible and how God kept His promise and still does today!

–New Phonograms we will be learning this week:  oa,oe,ck, ed

–Grade 1 sight words:  pg.1-4 sight word booklet

–Grade 2 sight words: pg.1-3 sight word booklet

–Spelling: (short week, short list) Gr. 1: hat, be, am, is, bed  Gr 2: white, paper, cut, its, it’s=it is, sick, gave, give, free, back

–Practise Bible verse: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.  1 Timothy 4:12

–Friday, Oct.23 Pro-D-Day (no school)

  • Home Reading – make sure you are reading with your child every night – return their plastic folder with the book, when you have completed 5 days of reading
  • Remember to complete your child’s health check every day
  • Planners go home and come back to school every day (we will write spelling words in them at the beginning of the week, please don’t do it at home with your child)
  • Don’t forget to bring a water bottle every day – no water fountains available
  • Homework – when your child misses more than one day of school,  I will be sending home a homework folder that has some of the work that they need to catch up on from the days missed.  Thanks for your support!
  • Comfort Kits – bring them in if you haven’t yet!

Here are the phonograms we have learned so far (see booklet):  sh, th, oo, ee, er, oy, oi, ch, ow, ou, ay, ai, ea, or, ew, ui.  Check to see how your child is doing.

We have received the student ID cards from Mountain West studios. There is a new online ordering process this year. The student ID cards will have your student webcode printed on the back, you will use this number to place your order.

News for the Week

Spelling:  This week Grade 1 will begin their Spelling.  We will start with 5 words.  I will introduce the words on Monday, Oct. 5 and testing is on Friday, Oct. 9.  Here are the words: top, but, and, cat, red  This week Grade 2 will increase their list to 15 words.  Here are the words: lone, alone, one, food, five, led, year, house, way, some, call, row, salt, belong, bring

Sight Words:  Gr 1 should know pgs 1-3 of their yellow booklet; Gr 2 should know pg 1-2 of their green booklet. This is oral fluency (not printing)  Please practise with your child.

Phonograms:  This week we will add: ay, ai, ea, or, ew, ui. (see booklet)  So far we have learned: sh, th, oo, ee, er, oy, oi, ch, ow, ou.   Home practise will be helpful.
