Comfort Kits

As part of Highroad Academy’s emergency management plan, each child will need an individual comfort kit. We need your help to complete these kits.

    • Parents who had their child in kindergarten here at Highroad are familiar with the comfort kits.  Your child will bring home their comfort kit from last year for a refresh and return.  For parents new to our school this is what is required:

Comfort Kits:

  1. Label a large Ziploc bag with your child’s name.
  2. Add a family photo. On the back of the photo, please print the child’s name, parent’s contact phone numbers, a secondary contact person’s phone number and care card number. List any allergies, if applicable. (Note: If your child requires an Epi-pen or special medications, it is the parent’s responsibility to supply the office with the required Rx for your child).
  3. In addition to the photo, please include the following in this bag:
    • Chewing gum
    • Two peanut-free granola or fruit bars or other non-perishable, high energy snack
    • Two Band Aids
    • Small personal item (optional) – for example, cards, toy
    • Solar foil blanket (Dollar Store)
    • Rain poncho (Dollar Store)
    • Small package of tissue

Everything must fit into the Ziploc bag, including the foil blanket and poncho.

Please return your child’s comfort kit to the classroom teacher no later than October 6th, so that we may include it in the class tote. Remember, this small personal kit can make a difference to the well-being of your child in an emergency. If you have any questions, please check with your child’s teacher.

After School Duty

We would like to remind everyone that our staff will be supervising the playground until 3:00. With the sunny weather, we have noticed an increase in the number of children and parents using the playground after school. At 3:00, our duty teachers will blow the whistle, signaling that ALL children need to leave the barkmulch and join their parents. For students without parents present, they will be directed to the lobby. Once the duty teachers blow their whistle three times, students who are with their parents can return to the playground. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students.

Our field trip to Greendale Acres pumpkin patch is confirmed for September 29th from 11:30-1:30. Field trip forms went home this afternoon. Please fill in the form and send it back with the children. Parents are welcome to join us at the farm for no extra cost. Any siblings that are 3 and older will pay $12.50 at the farm.

Please stop at the office for a criminal records form if you have not yet done that! If you fill one out as a Kindie parent it is still good for this year!

Last week was our first week of school!  Hurray!  We made it!  It was great to see smiling faces and happy children! We are beginning to know each other and learn the routines.  So many new things!  I enjoyed having a moment or two to chat with parents on drop off and pickup!  On Friday we had a special popsicle treat to celebrate the end of the week.  Here are some pictures:
