On January 24th at 7 pm, our Guatemala Missions Team will be having a fundraiser info night at the church. You can buy tickets for $10 online through “My HRA” space on our website. If you are unable to attend, but would like to donate, you can make a donation at the school office.

January:

Science–We finished learning about the Polar Habitat and will continue with Ocean Habitat and Desert Habitat.  Also, we will be learning about the Season of Life in Winter.

Socials–We continue with our study of the School Community—roles, rights, rules, responsibilities

Math–Addition (+6, +7, +8), Graphing,  meaning of equality and inequality

Reading– Home reading and Leveled Group Reading (see above)

Writing–We are orally building sentences with our Spelling words. Our goal is to be able to independently create and print our own sentences using phonetic spelling.

Phonograms–These are the phonograms we will be learning:  igh, ie, dge, wr (Jan 9-13)  

Bible–We begin the story of Joseph. (see Memory Work post above)

Just a reminder that we are continuing with our Home Reading Program.  Your child is progressing through leveled readers assigned to them.  Please take time to read with your child and after 3 readings ( recorded on the purple sheet in their planner pouch) if they can read it to me, they can receive a new book at that level.  Once 3 books have been read to me with confidence and understanding, your child may advance to the new level.  The level of the book is printed on the cover.  In addition to Home Reading, students are practising  with me in leveled reading groups to help them advance their reading skills.  This term is a big push to bring all students to a level of reading that will prepare them for Grade 2. (Level F) (Note:  Students who are receiving Learning Assistance will follow the leveled reader that is assigned in their ziplock baggie)  Thank you for your assistance in your child’s success!
