We have been directed by the Deputy Minister to refrain from sending students on field trips until further notice. It is one way that we can minimize traffic on the roads and unnecessary fuel consumption. The students will be disappointed about losing our bowling activity for Wednesday, but I am planning to do something special with them in the afternoon of that day to compensate for the disappointment. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello families
We are hoping that you are staying safe and dry. When we left on Wednesday, no one could have imagined that we would be in this position now. However, we know that God is in control. As Joshua 1:9 says, “….Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
You should have received an email last night from the Highroad Admin with some details regarding today. If you have not received it, please let the office know or check your email folders as it contains some important information about what is happening at Highroad Academy.
As many of our families, including staff members, are facing challenges, we are not focusing on academics right now. Rather, we are looking at ways we can perhaps serve others even in small ways. However, if you are looking for things for your children to do while at home, we have put together some activities focusing on kindness and ways to be thoughtful at this time. The pictures below have lots of activities attached that can be done at any age level. Clicking on the pictures below will bring up a larger image.
Students can also spend some time writing down their reflections on what is happening around them like a diary. Their writing can focus on what they are seeing, hearing and feeling.
These activities are entirely optional. We understand that there may be other priorities or even ways your family can be of service in your community that are more important.
Above, we are praying for you, and we hope that we get to be together again soon.

Dress for the Weather: Please remember to send your child with everything they will need if it is an outside day … some of these last few days have been VERY cold, but we still go outside. We also are outside if it is raining a little. So please, send jackets, rain boots, and anything they need to stay warm.
Home Reading Program: Read and return your books for book exchange
Poppies: Students will receive a poppy this week and we are taking loonie donations for the Veterans’ Fund. Thank you.

It’s been a dreary week …. a lot of rain but we have worked hard and accomplished a lot. We had our Worries and Fears assembly on Tuesday. It was good to hear and share about worries and anxieties that we all have and yet better to know how God cares about all our fears and anxieties and cares for us–giving us peace amidst it all. It was good to learn about some ways we can help to calm ourselves in moments of anxiousness and worry.
Dates to Remember:
Sun. Nov. 7 – Daylight Savings time
Wed. Nov.10 – Remembrance Day Ceremony 2:15
Thurs. Nov. 11 – Remembrance Day – No School
Fri. Nov. 12 – Pro D Day
Wed. Nov.17 – Jersey Day
Fri. Nov.19 – Bowling Field Trip
Wed. Nov.24 – Bowling Trip
Fri. Nov.26-Parent/Teacher Interviews
Spelling: No Spelling due to short week.
Phonograms: As we are learning to sound out words, it is important that students know each single letter phonogram to help them with basic decoding. On the back of the Spelling test this week you will have a glimpse of how your child is doing with this important process of learning to read. Carrying on, we are learning multi-letter phonograms that will assist students in decoding in their reading. Here are the phonograms we have learned so far and hope you will practise at home as well; ee, oo, er, th, sh, oi, oy, ch, ow, ou, ay, ai, or, ea, ew, ui If you are not familiar with the pronunciation of these phonograms, please let me know and I will send a booklet home that may help. Let me know via planner.
